Abstract

PROBLEM: Abdominal trauma is a common condition that can cause significant disability and mortality. This is because the injuries can affect important organs and soft tissues within the abdomen, such as the liver and intestines. Abdominal injuries are considered medical emergencies because, if not treated promptly and properly, they can be life-threatening. OBJECTIVE: To describe the hospital management of abdominal trauma. METHOD: A documentary research was carried out based on the review and analysis of scientific articles to obtain information and knowledge about abdominal trauma and its hospital approach. RESULTS: Hospital management of abdominal trauma begins with a primary assessment using the XABCDE sequence, where the main need is to control exsanguinating bleeding that compromises the patient's life; then proceed with a secondary assessment to decide if the treatment will be surgical or not, the main objective of surgical treatment being damage control, followed by the repair and reconstruction of the affected organs. CONCLUSION: The management of abdominal trauma at the hospital level requires shock areas equipped with everything necessary for the stabilization of the patient to increase their chances of life.
