Abstract

PROBLEM: The liver is a complex organ with various functions. In addition to storing blood and filtering toxins, it plays a crucial role in nutrient metabolism and bile production. Understanding its anatomy and physiology is essential to address liver diseases, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in women, which is characterized by the accumulation of fat in the liver without excessive alcohol consumption being the main cause. OBJECTIVE: To describe non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in women. METHOD: A documentary study was carried out about non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in women. RESULTS: The female population most affected by non-alcoholic fatty liver disease are those who are in the postmenopausal stage, between 50 and 55 years of age and with a history of oophorectomy. Treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in women involves adopting a new lifestyle that focuses on dietary changes to reduce calorie intake and regular physical exercise to improve insulin resistance. CONCLUSION: The prevention of diseases that develop fatty liver is based on the awareness of the population and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
